All halibut bait, terminal tackle, rods and reels are provided for your fishing charter. All you need to bring is your clothes and food or drink if desired. Your catch is filleted by the crew as part of the charter

How can I take my catch home ?

We strongly suggest that at the end of your charter you have your catch vacuumed bagged by one of the commercial fish processors available in Homer. Aurora Sportfishing has an arrangement with one of these processors whose employees will meet the Northern Lights when it docks and take your fillets to their processing facility and immediately process your catch. Generally, by the time you get ready to leave after off loading from the Northern Lights you catch will be processed.

What should I bring with me?

Food and drink, if desired and some foul weather wear would be all you need to have a great day of fishing on the Northern Lights

How long does the halibut charter last?

Generally speaking the Northern Lights is the first charter to leave the dock sometimes as early as 5 AM. There are times when the fishing is so hot the limit is reached in a few hours and depending on the weather and other factors as well as the agreement among the anglers on board some sightseeing can be done, so you can usually count on a 12 hour charter.

How many other fishermen are on the Northern Lights charters?

The Northern Lights is licensed for groups of up to 14 fishermen so if you have a group of that size they can be accommodated. For general charters of non associated fishermen we limit the fishing to 10 persons.

How rough do the seas get?

There are times when the waters of Kachemak Bay and lower Cook Inlet get rough, and when this is the case the Northern Lights does not fish. When the captain cancels a trip due to weather your money is returned. There are also times when the captain may decide to take the Northern Lights out to physically see if there are some weather protected areas to fish. In this case if the weather is too rough to fish and there is no chance of fishing your money for the charter will be refunded

Are we guaranteed to catch fish?

Anyone who guarantees you will catch fish is foolhardy. No good captain will do that! What Aurora Sportfishing can guarantee is that you have a professional halibut charter captain and crew who fish halibut in Alaska for a living and our goal is to give you the best opportunity to catch fish that we can!
